Give Lancaster Conference time
by Kenneth Cressman, New Hamburg, Ont.
After reading the negative feedback regarding the decision of Lancaster Mennonite Conference not to ordain women, I believe it is time for people to step back and permit them to work out this issue in their own way. People should appreciate the fact that they chose to be a part of Mennonite Church USA and refrain from giving them a calling down for not being at the same point as other conferences. Even conferences that ordain women often have individual congregations that balk at having a female pastor.
Over the years, Lancaster Conference has made many changes. Years ago, it would have been unthinkable for women in that conference not to wear prayer coverings, to name one example out of many. Give them time to make their changes in their own time and manner.
