NEWTON, Kan.—Mennonite Church USA Executive Leadership has appointed Rich Preheim of Elkhart, Ind., director of the Mennonite Church USA Historical Committee. Preheim has been its interim director part-time since October 2006 and will begin work as full-time director Sept. 1.

Preheim will work from the Goshen Archives on the campus of Goshen (Ind.) College, one of two archive locations administered by the Historical Committee. The North Newton Archives are located on the Bethel College campus in North Newton, Kan.
The Historical Committee, a ministry of Executive Leadership, is responsible for nurturing the denomination’s historical consciousness through its two archives, publishing Mennonite Historical Bulletin, sponsoring a student research contest, planning conferences and making historical resources available to the church.
Preheim is finishing a book on the history of Indiana-Michigan Mennonite Conference. He began research for the book while working as a free-lance writer after serving nearly 12 years as an editor for the Mennonite Weekly Review and The Mennonite.
