Julia Smucker and Bethany Geib, participants in World Missions Institute, enjoy food from an Afghan restaurant provided by the mosque in Harrisburg, Pa. Twenty-one missionary candidates who are headed to assignments in North America, Peru, Chile, Honduras, Cambodia, Burkina Faso, Spain, China, Kenya, Honduras, Central Asia and the Middle East grappled with key mission issues, such as sharing one’s faith and understanding different worldviews, during the three-week World Missions Institute sponsored by Eastern Mennonite Missions and held at Lancaster (Pa.) Mennonite School in June. EMM requires World Missions Institute for all who serve long term. “We want everyone to understand our philosophy of missions,” says Mervin Charles, director of Global Ministries for EMM, “to understand the biblical foundations and history of missions [and] be introduced to current mission issues and strategies.”
