CHENOA, Ill.—Over 250 people gathered Aug. 19 at Meadows Mennonite Church to celebrate the congregation’s 117 years of ministry and grieve its closing.
Meadows was one of the daughter congregations of “Father” Joseph Stuckey, an Amish bishop in central Illinois who was the leader of the Stuckey Amish (now part of the Central District Conference of Mennonite Church USA).
Meadows hosted the 1911 meeting that organized Congo Inland Mission (now Africa Inter-Mennonite Mission) and the 1919 meeting that organized Mennonite Old People’s Home (now Meadows Mennonite Retirement Center).—Janeen Bertsche Johnson
