Is lust the most gender-specific sin?
by Ronald Rich, Bluffton, Ohio
Steve Thomas’ article (“The Deadly Sin of Lust”) and Jesse R. Engle’s letter (Sept. 18) add to the religiously and politically “correct” voices conforming to national TV, movies, cartoons, comics and greeting cards telling us each day that men are the main sinners (and dummies). Some ask why men say no to church. A “nonconformist” denomination should see some connection and question our culture’s fashionable male bashing.
We need to reject sin, and my friends are nervous about challenging modern female chauvinism, but they may note that Jesus condemned the dominant male chauvinism of his day, and he is our model for speaking up against any disrespect.
