Young urban Mennonites
by Meryl Roth, Seattle
Thanks for the articles on “urban migration” (Oct. 2). Generally I, my housemates and other young Mennonites flip through the magazine looking for names we know, then hand it off to the next person before recycling it. But this one excited us, particularly because of how many former Mennonite Voluntary Service workers choose to stay in Seattle and of our relationship to the church. As citified young Mennonites, we talk about this issue a lot, particularly about the church-hunting challenges.
It is an issue the Mennonite churches in Seattle are dealing with in different ways, so it’s helpful to read what the pastors said. It’s also nice to have an article that applies specifically to us. And the cover is attractive: It’s what I’m coming to associate more with my definition of Mennonite than a farm in Ohio or Kansas.
