The idol in our midst II
by Walter S. Friesen, Hesston, Kan.
Thanks to Steve Steiner for opening a much-needed dialogue about grave injustices to Palestinians and the uncritical support of the modern secular state of Israel by millions of Christian Zionists. There are many different narratives by which to understand the hostilities and turmoil of the Middle East, and probably all have some truth, while none is adequate for the whole story.
At the least, we ought to question as critically as we can every account that lines up with our own pernicious lust for power and privilege, especially when such accounts are fortified with highly selective Scripture passages to accommodate religious superstitions and justify the advance of our brand of nationalism and supremacy.
What are the forums, questions and protocols for this important but fearfully avoided discussion?
