The idol in our midst III
by Dellis Schrock, Fargo, N.D.
Right on to Steve Steiner. Those “Christians standing up and applauding the State of Israel” are being used by the Israelis, who otherwise have little in common with these right-wing Christians.
Fundamentalist Christians and Zionists who claim that Israel is the “promised land” forget that that promise was contingent on obedience to God. Since they broke that covenant hundreds of years ago, they may also have lost a claim to the land. About 14 million Christians live in the Middle East, many in Palestine, where Jews have destroyed 300-400 of their villages.
Jimmy Carter in Palestine Peace not Apartheid declares that a “minority of Israelis occupying this area are occupying, confiscating and colonizing land that belongs to the Palestinians” [many are Christians], contradicting the peace agreement Carter brokered between Egypt and Israel, and violating a United Nations resolution.
With Steiner I wonder how the Jews can have forgotten the Holocaust only 75 years ago.
