Encouraged by meeting with Ahmadinejad
by Matt Kaiser, Kansas City, Kan.I was troubled as I read today’s newspaper quoting a range of U.S. politicians from the Bush administration to presidential candidates from both parties as they rattle their sabers, threatening violent action in Iran. “MCC Continues Conversation With Iran” (Oct. 16) was a pertinent reminder that the Mennonite church is involved in these current events in a direct way. I am encouraged by the work of Mennonite Central Committee’s delegation in starting and continuing a dialogue with Mr. Ahmadinejad. May we all implore our government’s leaders to follow this example of respectful dialogue with those with whom we intensely disagree, lest more blood be shed in the Middle East.
