Ordination decision also hurts men
by Jason Shenk, Goshen, Ind.In the Feb. 6 article that reports Executive Board member responses to the Lancaster (Pa.) Mennonite Conference vote on ordination for women, Samuel Lopez indicated he feels the pain of the women—and women’s pain about this decision is surely paramount. But this vote’s impact is broader than that. I am a man who has been nurtured and strengthened in my faith by growing up in a congregation with a woman pastor. As we all reflect on the vote, I hope we do not think or act as if women will be the only ones hurt by this decision.
