ABERDEEN, Idaho—First Mennonite Church of Aberdeen will celebrate its 100th anniversary June 23-24. Founded July 4, 1907, it was the first church organized in Aberdeen. The theme will be “Faith and Community—Through the Years.”
The centennial celebration will be held during Aberdeen Days, along with other community events. A highlight will be a short concert sung by a community choir and directed by Daniel Hege, conductor and music director of the Syracuse (N.Y.) Symphony Orchestra, who is an Aberdeen High School graduate and a member of First Mennonite Church.
Aberdeen is a diverse, cooperative community. Though Mennonites are relatively few in number, they have always been a part of local agriculture, business and professional life.
