HESSTON, Kan.—A new organ was installed at Hesston Mennonite Church during a two-week period ending Dec. 10, 2007. The organ still requires tuning and voicing following the Christmas holidays before it can be used by the congregation and Hesston College.
A dedication recital and a dedication service are planned for the weekend of March 1-2.
Both Hesston Mennonite Church and Hesston College contributed to the $265,000 cost. The church’s organ committee consisted of Mary Ann Boschmann, chair, North Newton, Kan.; Julie Krehbiel, Hesston; Marna Burckhart, Hesston; and Ken Rodgers, Hesston, who represented the college. Rodgers teaches piano and organ and directs the Hesston College Chorale.
The organ has three keyboards—a great manual, a swell manual and a coupling manual (at the bottom of the three), which Rodgers said plays both the great and swell together, plus a pedal board of 32 notes. At present, 946 pipes and 17 stops have been installed. Mague explained that the organ was built with expansion capabilities, with the maximum configuration being a total of 1,106 pipes and 21 stops.
