Original fair trade fashions sell in Harrisonburg

by Anna Groff

Print Article

Kathleen Temple (left), Harrisonburg, Va., and Kaitie Atchison, 18, Broadway, Va., model their original fashions as part of the collection they donated to Artisans’ Hope, a fair trade store in Harrisonburg. Many garments from the collection of 25 were sold at an opening on April 19. The fabrics used in the collection are fairly-traded hand-batik rayons from Bali. “The whole enterprise is helping to promote fair trade generally and to point up the need for fair trade in the garment industry,” said Temple, who works with Atchison at Ragtime Fabrics in downtown Harrisonburg.—Anna Groff
