A contrarian view of consumption

by Harvey Yoder, Harrisonburg, Va.

Print Article

Al Doerksen (“A Contrarian View of Anticonsumption Rhetoric,” Oct. 21) makes some good points, but unless we come up with new sources of inexpensive fuel, won’t we all have to reduce our consumption of goods that have to be transported over great distances? This will require some adjustments that won’t likely happen overnight. But happen they must if the planet is to survive. Starting now can allow everyone to begin adapting before it is too late and without the dire consequences for producers, processors and transporters Doerksen fears.
