GOSHEN, Ind.—Two Mennonite Church USA leaders are recovering from serious medical problems. On Nov. 22, 2008, executive director Jim Schrag had double bypass surgery at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan. He is currently at home recuperating, and no date has been set for his return to work. Schrag works out of Mennonite Church USA offices in Newton, Kan.

On Dec. 3, 2008, Mennonite Mission Network’s executive director Stanley Green checked into Goshen (Ind.) General Hospital after experiencing shortness of breath. Tests indicated that Green had a pulmonary embolism (blood clot). After successful treatment, doctors discharged Green from the hospital Dec. 7. He returned to work at the Mission Network’s office in Elkhart, Ind., on Dec. 10.

“I am relearning that my time (our times) are in God’s hands and that I (we) are not in control,” Green said in a Dec. 16 email. “It has been a blessing to find myself part of a community of caring that helped the process of getting well.”
