Expanding Christian Peacemaker Teams
by Ron Sider, Philadelphia
I appreciate the vigorous responses in Readers Say to my Oct. 7, 2008, article “Expand CPT.” Here are a couple brief comments:
Joe Liechty is certainly right that CPT-type activity is only one of many kinds of peacemaking that we need to expand. But we will never learn the limits (and possibilities) of CPT-type peacemaking unless we try to expand it greatly.
Half the letters responded to my three brief sentences on CPT’s pro-gay activities. I did not and do not ask CPT to exclude gay volunteers. I simply want CPT to actually practice its official policy, namely, that CPT as an organization takes no stand on (and thus neither promotes nor opposes) a homosexual/lesbian lifestyle.
