Jesus, peace and Islam II
by Ray Elvin Horst, Harrisonburg, Va.
Islam clearly views Christ as one of God’s prophets. That fact makes Jack Miller’s claim that “Islam is the enemy of Christ” (Readers Say, Dec. 2) difficult to understand.
Our Lord calls us to love our enemies. This suggests that words are better than bombs for dealing with national leaders. Miller seems to lack faith in Jesus’ message, and he overlooks “Blessed are the peacemakers.” Especially when our government refuses to pursue understanding with another nation, peacemakers such as the MCC people who talked with Iran’s president about resolving issues of conflict deserve our support.
