Berne church changes conferences
by Everett J. ThomasPrint Article Email to a Friend
On May 10, representatives from Central District Conference and Ohio Mennonite Conference led a ceremony at the First Mennonite Church of Berne (Ind.) to bless and confirm that congregation's decision to leave Central District and join Ohio Conference. The congregation made the switch in March.
The May 10 "releasing-receiving-blessing ceremony" included Central District leaders Lois Kaufmann and Gordon Oyer, and Ohio Conference leaders Tom Kauffman and John Rohrer.
Berne's interim pastor, Jerry Flueckiger, represented the congregation. As part of the ceremony, Central District leaders passed a pair of candleholders to the Ohio Conference leaders who then passed them along to the pastor.
Delegates to Central District Conference's annual session on June 25-27 will have opportunities to hear more about this change; the annual meeting will be held at First Mennonite Church in Sugarcreek, Ohio.
