Child protection connection
by Gay Brunt Miller, director of collaborative ministries, Franconia Mennonite Conference
I appreciated Anna Groff's article and editorial in the April 21 issue about churches ministering to sex offenders. That’s an important subject and one we really need to grapple with if we are to be missional people.
The other part of the conversation is that churches need frequent reminders about how to make their churches and programs places that are as safe as possible from sexual predators. Julie Prey-Harbaugh, a member of one of our congregations, has developed a consulting business (that grew out of a request from Franconia Conference) called, "One Childhood Consulting").
The URL is http://onechildhoodconsulting.com/default.aspx.
Julie and a couple other women will be presenting seminars in Columbus, Ohio, at Convention 2009 on various aspects of the theme. Perhaps some future issue of The Mennonite could feature something on child protection.
