Disassociating with Mennonite Church USA
by Richard Boshart, Lebanon, Pa.
In the May 19 issue, Dick Thomas says, "Mennonite Church USA is my spiritual home, nurtured through participation in congregations" ("Thomas Nominee for Moderator-Elect"). This comment—part of Thomas’ statement in contemplating his up coming role in Mennonite Church USA—also resonates with me and the position in which my wife and I find ourselves at present. We find ourselves floundering as our home congregation has voted to disassociate with Mennonite Church USA.
We love our brothers and sisters in that fellowship but find ourselves seeking fellowship in the larger body of Mennonites. It is a lonely journey, and we wonder if our search is right. Or should we remain in relationship with friends with whom, for the most part, we agree in love? We want to see Mennonites come together in unity but find ourselves following the path of separation looking for unity.
