Katie Boyts, a licensed massage therapist in Oregon, led a group of young adults at Mennonite Church USA Convention 2009 in Chinese massage techniques.

While studying Peace and Justice at Goshen (Ind.) College, Boyts said she developed an interest in the healing aspect of peacemaking, specifically around trauma. Boyts, of Portland (Ore.) Mennonite Church, studied bodywork at East West College of the Healing Arts in Portland and discovered ways to relate it to peacemaking.

Boyts told the group of 30 young adults that Chinese medicine's understanding of the body is based on "qi" and described qi as an "invisible force that influences something."

Boyts is one of the speakers for the youth worship on July 4 and will lead a seminar that same day titled, "Breathe and be filled in body."
