LANCASTER, Pa.—On July 5, 400 people came to Lancaster Mennonite School to send off more than 50 long-term and short-term Eastern Mennonite Missions workers and honor past workers.

Anna Lois Charles and the late Raymond Charles received the Presidential Commitment Award for outstanding service. Raymond had been a past president of EMM, traveled extensively to visit workers around the world and taught Bible at Lancaster Mennonite School.

Glenn Kauffman, director of Global Ministries, presented the Rhoda E. Wenger Life Service Award to Lois Eshleman and the late J. Lester Eshleman.

Rhoda Lind and the late Wilbur Lind received the Elam W. Stauffer Pioneer Mission Award for displaying the same courageous pioneering spirit as Stauffer, who was EMM’s first overseas missionary. The Linds were the first Mennonite missionaries to enter Somalia, where they worked for 16 years.

The Impact Award for Short-term Mission and Service, which honors those who have given themselves to change the world through short-term missions and service, was presented to Jeryl Hollinger and Sam Thomas. Both men served in EMM’s voluntary service program as participants and later as administrators.
