Gives credit to Roth and Koontz

by Katherine Yoder, Brooklyn, N.Y.

Print Article

I want to thank The Mennonite and Anna Groff for the Sept. 1 article on the Mennonite Artist Project and the interview with me on the tensions of working as a clothing designer and being Mennonite ("Clothing Designer Describes Tensions of Learning 'New Language' and Remembering 'Mother Tongue'"). I also want to acknowledge the important role played by John Roth and Ted Koontz that was not included in the condensed version of the interview. I was exposed to the concept of faith being a language, separate from other languages (in my case, the language of design) at a lecture by John Roth, who incorporated a reference to a January 2003 Mennonite Quarterly Review article by Ted Koontz ("Thinking Theologically About War Against Iraq"). Koontz' article was pivotal in providing me with a framework for how I could pursue clothing design without losing the connection to my roots—and I recommend it to others. So thanks to both John and Ted.
