Bible can withstand competition

by Betsy Headrick McCrae, Lakewood, Colo.

Print Article

Regarding "The Shack: Simplistic, Didactic and Wildly Popular" (Jan. 20): Shame on you, Gordon Houser. Your snobbery is showing. True, The Shack is not particularly well-written. But there is a power in it that must be taken seriously. The imagery that William Paul Young uses seems to be allowing folks to think differently about and come closer to God. To dismiss it out of hand is to dismiss the possibility of engaging in some good faith conversations. The Bible can withstand the competition and may even benefit from it.

Editor's note: With these letters we discontinue responses to Gordon Houser's Jan. 20 column.
