The Corinthian Plan
by Ralph D. Martin, Goshen, Ind.
Regarding The Corinthian Plan ("Blessed Insurance," March 3): Yes, we need health care for pastors. But what about the janitor? What about the church secretary? And don’t forget the 60-year-old man sitting in the back row who lost his job when his employer went bankrupt, losing his health care and pension. Is it fair that only the pastor is getting consideration? This is a classic example of the health-care mess and the attitudes of many within Mennonite Church USA.
An attempt was made in 1992 to fix the health-care inequality. The efforts were blocked by the opposite party and special interests.
Psalm 82 instructs us on how we are to care for the poor, sick and elderly. When will we begin to practice what we profess?
