Ohio community links with Greencroft Communities- 11/01/07
Plans are proceeding for Walnut Hills Retirement Community, Walnut Creek, Ohio, to affiliate with Greencroft Communities, Goshen, Ind.
The decision by Levi and Lillis Troyer, founders of Walnut Hills, and their family came after months of working with Walnut Hills management and consultants to develop a strategic plan to continue Walnut Hills' 36-year reputation of providing quality retirement living and compassionate healthcare.
The Troyer family sought an organization with similar philosophies, as well as knowledge and expertise in managing Continuing Care Living Communities.
"The family desired an affiliate that is financially stable and whose mission, vision and values are congruent with their own," said David A. Miller, president since 1982.
Greencroft Communities, a not-for-profit service provider, includes five retirement communities in northern Indiana (four affiliated and one contract-managed). Greencroft Communities is sponsored by MHS (Mennonite Health Services) Alliance. In turn, it sponsors affiliates of both Mennonite and other Christian faith traditions.
According to Mark King, president and CEO of Greencroft Communities, the umbrella organization focuses on working through local boards of directors and management.
"We focus on maximizing their resources and services as continuing care living communities where people older than 55 years of age can live secure, safe and fulfilling lives," King said.
"Levi and Lillis have always looked at Walnut Hills as their ministry," said Miller. "This affiliation is the best way for that mission of compassion and caring to continue."
The details of the affiliation with Greencroft will be worked out over the coming months, including naming a board of directors. The Walnut Hills name, management, and operations will be the same. The campus is home to 250 residents and has 160 associates.
Greencroft Retirement Communities opened its doors in Goshen in 1967. Today, Greencroft Goshen is an accredited continuing care retirement community, home to 1,200 residents. Other affiliated communities are Greencroft Middlebury, Southfield Village (South Bend), and Hamilton Grove (New Carlisle). Oak Grove Christian Retirement Village, DeMotte, in Jasper County, is managed by contract. The five communities serve more than 1,700 residents and employ 900 team members.
